Interphone ERA 1X Wins the Red Dot Award 2026: Italian Design Recognized World wide
Interphone's motorcycle intercom has earned one of the world's most prestigious design awards. A result born from the collaboration with Studio Volpi, confirming ERA 1X as the most innovative product in the brand's history.
There comes a moment when a product stops being just an accessory and becomes a design object. With ERA 1X, Interphone has reached exactly that point — and the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2026 is the official recognition of this achievement.
Awarded each year by the Red Dot Institute in Essen from among thousands of entries submitted worldwide, the Red Dot Award recognizes products that stand out for design quality, innovation, and the perfect balance between form and function. Receiving this award means being evaluated by one of the most respected juries in the international industrial design community.
For Interphone, the motorcycle division of the Cellularline Group, this recognition rewards years of development and a clear ambition: to completely redefine what a motorcycle intercom can be.
What Is the Red Dot Award and Why Does It Matter?
The Red Dot Award: Product Design is one of the three most prestigious design awards in the world, alongside the IF Design Award and the Good Design Award. Founded in 1955 in Essen, Germany, it evaluates thousands of products every year based on specific criteria including innovation, functionality, ergonomics, durability, aesthetic quality, and overall user experience.
It is a highly technical assessment carried out by an international jury of designers, engineers, academics, and industry experts who evaluate each product on its actual merits.
Winning in 2026 means becoming part of the Red Dot Design Yearbook 2026/27, one of the world's leading design publications, and entering the permanent collection of the Red Dot Design Museum in Essen.
The Project: Interphone and Studio Volpi
ERA 1X was born from a close collaboration between Interphone's internal team and Studio Volpi, the renowned Milan-based design and engineering studio founded by Gianmario Volpi in 1994.
With an international portfolio that includes brands such as Philips, Electrolux, Lavazza, Logitech, and B&B Italia, Studio Volpi also received the Red Dot Best of the Best award in 2019 for the Angelo Po ACT.O project — the highest recognition granted by the competition.
The challenge was ambitious: transforming a technical accessory, historically designed around functionality, into a design object capable of expressing the identity of the rider. A product conceived with a design-first, rather than function-first, approach.
The result is a device weighing just 50 grams, featuring clean aerodynamic lines, textured finishes, interchangeable covers, and a customizable dynamic LED lighting system. The antenna, traditionally a difficult element to integrate visually, disappears entirely into the structure. Every detail — from premium materials to the ergonomic shape — reflects a carefully crafted balance between elegance and real-world performance.

First Unveiled at EICMA 2025
ERA 1X made its world debut at EICMA 2025 in Milan, the perfect stage for a product that carries the aesthetic heritage of the Italian design capital in its DNA.
From the moment it was introduced, it was clear that Interphone was pursuing something different: not a simple technical update, not another color variation of an existing model, but a complete rethinking of what motorcycle communication should be in 2025.
The response from the market and specialized press was immediate. The verdict from the Red Dot jury has now confirmed it.
A Milestone for Italian Design
There is something significant about an Italian company winning a German award — one of the most rigorous and technically demanding recognitions in the industry — with a product whose very name represents the concept of a new era.
ERA 1X was born from Italian creativity and engineering, developed in collaboration with one of the country's leading design studios, unveiled in the heart of Milan's design culture, and now carries the prestigious seal of quality from Essen.
For Interphone, part of the Cellularline Group — a company rooted in Italy's manufacturing tradition and supported by an international distribution network — this award arrives at a moment of clear maturity. The story began in 2001 with the company's first wired motorcycle intercom. More than twenty years later, ERA 1X may well be the most complete product in its history.
The Red Dot Gala: Product Design 2026 will take place on July 7 in Essen, Germany. Starting in August, ERA 1X will officially be featured in the Red Dot Design Yearbook 2026/27.
